Overview LMU Career Mentoring Program

The mentoring relationship offers the perfect opportunity to reflect on your professional and personal plans with an experienced person. So much so, that it's often your mentor that ends up being the bridge between you and your first job.

Our around 300 volunteer mentors are experienced academics from all disciplines and from a wide range of industries and professions. They will answer your questions, share their experience and guide you to help you make a successful start to your career.

And it's great fun! Our mentees and mentors all agree that mentoring isn't just about progressing professionally and personally. It's an enjoyable experience. The fact that many former mentees return to us years later to become mentors is certainly proof of that.

The duration of the mentoring tandems is completely individual: from a few weeks to several months or even long-term relationships, anything is possible, depending on the needs of the mentees and the capacities of the mentors.
How often you meet is also individual: usually, mentor and mentee meet in person once or twice every six months and also keep in touch by phone or email.
In tandem, you can talk informally about all topics relating to starting a career, your studies and your career.
Mentor and mentee decide on topics, times and places themselves.
As part of various events, e.g. the golf event or theater visits, both sides can expand their network with other mentors and students.

If you are enrolled at LMU — whether it's on an undergraduate degree program or doctorate degree — you can sign up as a mentee at any time. The subject you're studying and which semester you're in is not important. After your registration, you can expect to participate in a personal counseling session with us to ensure you are matched to a mentor that suits your needs.

Are you an academic with three or more years of professional experience? Then we look forward to your commitment as a mentor in our program. We welcome all LMU alumni and graduates from other universities who have the time and desire to volunteer as a mentor to support LMU students in their career choices.
